The Session x The Reed x K.ZIA

It all starts with an idea. The Session is a project founded by the artist Simdal and his friends back then on Warschauerstrasse, with minimal resources.

A year later, my colleague stumbled upon the guys and brought them to us at The Reed.

For the past 5 years, I have accompanied The Session Berlin as the Digital Creative Director and Live Operator. The absolute highlight was the concept of a 360-degree stage for our anniversary. For this, I developed a lighting concept with The Session team and created and curated digital content to be displayed.

The main act of the evening was the artist K.ZIA, who simultaneously celebrated the release of her EP "KINTSUGI HEART."

The entire project was crafted solely in TouchDesigner. Collaborating with The Session crew, we opted for a theme evoking the ambiance of a jazz bar, infused with brutalist accents and deliberate, unhurried movements.

I implemented a deliberate slow spiral movement, enhancing the project's dynamics. Employing Python code, I crafted a looping mechanism, adding depth and continuity.

I opted for a predominantly red and black color palette for the ambient lighting. From above, we introduced grey, white, and red tones strategically, highlighting without detracting from the musicians' performance.

Ultimately, I mirrored the video to match the dimensions of the 25m LED screen. Opting for a non-reactive video to maintain focus, I implemented an audio-reactive lighting setup. Two microphones on stage capture the sound, enhancing the immersive experience.

Completed in just 5 days, this project stands as one of my swifter endeavors. Given the personal investment I had in The Session, I found immense joy in crafting such a memorable anniversary celebration
